In response to new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Gov. Roy Cooper, effective Monday morning, Aug. 2, the Town of Garner will reinstate the requirement that all staff wear face coverings while inside Town facilities including Town Hall. All visitors to these buildings also will be required to wear face coverings while doing business in them and during Town Council and other public meetings. The Town will provide masks to those who do not have them.
As an additional measure, the Town's Public Works Department will arrange conference rooms, public spaces and the Council Chambers to encourage and support social distancing.
The CDC on July 27 communicated new guidelines regarding the use and wearing of face coverings. Most notably, the CDC said that even vaccinated people should return to wearing masks indoors in parts of the United States where coronavirus spread is surging. Under the CDC's new guidance, that currently encompasses 80 of North Carolina's 100 counties including Wake County. On July 29, Gov. Cooper strongly recommended that everyone follow the new CDC guidance.
