Leaders from Across Wake County Work to Lift Mask Mandates Friday, Feb. 25, Garner Included.

After months of carefully monitoring COVID-19 metrics, Wake County Government will be lifting its mask mandate, joined by the City of Raleigh and the towns of Garner, Knightdale, Rolesville and Zebulon. These mandates will be removed effective 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25. Leaders in the town of Morrisville are currently consulting with their full board on rolling back their mandate as well. The towns of Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Wake Forest and Wendell no longer had mask mandates in place.

Wake County Seniors 65+ Can Join Waiting List for Vaccine Starting Jan. 19

Wake County residents ages 65 and older and healthcare workers who are interested in getting the COVID-19 vaccine can join our waiting list, starting Tuesday, Jan. 19. To provide the best possible customer service, Wake County Public Health is using a new system to help match the demand for shots with supply of vaccine.

“We don’t want our seniors standing out in the cold, waiting for hours to get vaccinated against this dangerous virus,” said Wake County Board of Commissioners Chairman Matt Calabria. “This new system will enable them to schedule an appointment when it’s their turn, so they’ll know exactly when and where to get their shot.

North Carolina Pauses in Safer At Home Phase 2, Adds Statewide Requirement for Face Coverings

Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen today announced that North Carolina will remain in Safer at Home Phase 2 for three more weeks. Cooper also announced that face coverings must be worn when people are in public places as officials seek to stabilize concerning trends of increasing viral spread.

Wake County Identifies New Outbreak of COVID-19 in Garner

Wake County has confirmed an outbreak of COVID-19 at The Laurels of Forest Glenn, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center in Garner.

Our Public Health team has received test results showing positive cases of the virus in residents at the facility, located at 1101 Hartwell Street, Garner. No additional information about residents or employees within the facility will be disclosed.

Garner Parks and Recreation Releases Plan for Facilities, Amenities and Programming for the Rest of May

As we head into the governor's Phase 1 of the reopening of the state, we wanted to update you on the Garner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department's plan for the rest of the month.

Here is a listing of program and event cancellations for the rest of May due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the governor's executive order for Phase 1:

  • All facility, shelter and park rentals are cancelled.

  • All youth, adult and senior classes and programs are cancelled.

  • All special events for May--namely, Friday Family Flicks and Memorial Day--are cancelled.

Town of Garner Update on COVID-19 (March 19, 2020)

In an effort to combat the spread of COVID-19, the Town of Garner has decided to close Town Hall and other Town buildings to the public effective 8 a.m. Friday, March 20, until further notice.

The Town takes this step out of an abundance of caution. As always, the Town’s top priority is to protect the safety and well-being of residents and staff. And although Town buildings are closed to the public, staff remain working to conduct the business of your local government and to provide essential services to the community.

Garner Town Council Meets in Emergency Session for Update on COVID-19 Preparations (March 15, 2020)

Mayor Ken Marshburn called an Emergency Town Council meeting to discuss directives from the Governor’s Office after the declaration of a State of Emergency and to outline planning for the town in regards to protecting citizens during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The majority of the meeting allowed for council members to ask questions and voice concerns ahead of decisions that will need to be made in the coming week.
