As we head into the governor's Phase 1 of the reopening of the state, we wanted to update you on the Garner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department's plan for the rest of the month.
Here is a listing of program and event cancellations for the rest of May due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the governor's executive order for Phase 1:
All facility, shelter and park rentals are cancelled.
All youth, adult and senior classes and programs are cancelled.
All special events for May--namely, Friday Family Flicks and Memorial Day--are cancelled.

Wake County's stay-at-home order has gone into effect and now applies to county residents and businesses, prior to the statewide order that goes into effect Monday. Mayor Marshburn wanted to briefly address Garner residents about the stay-at-home order and about the challenges we face as a community. Please take a few minutes to watch the mayor's address.

In an effort to combat the spread of COVID-19, the Town of Garner has decided to close Town Hall and other Town buildings to the public effective 8 a.m. Friday, March 20, until further notice.
The Town takes this step out of an abundance of caution. As always, the Town’s top priority is to protect the safety and well-being of residents and staff. And although Town buildings are closed to the public, staff remain working to conduct the business of your local government and to provide essential services to the community.

Mayor Ken Marshburn called an Emergency Town Council meeting to discuss directives from the Governor’s Office after the declaration of a State of Emergency and to outline planning for the town in regards to protecting citizens during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The majority of the meeting allowed for council members to ask questions and voice concerns ahead of decisions that will need to be made in the coming week.

In accordance with Gov. Roy Cooper’s recommendation concerning the response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Town of Garner is cancelling or modifying numerous Town events and programs effective Saturday, March 14, at least through Wednesday, April 15. We take these steps because, as always, maintaining the health and well-being of our residents is our top priority.
